Zen Contemporary Art Gallery was established in 2014 with the aim of better representation of the emerging, mid-career and established artists at the Croatian and international art scene with a goal of better cooperation with foreign art galleries, participation in international art fairs of contemporary art and organization of art exhibitions in Croatia and abroad. The Gallery is founded and run by Frankica Mitrović Mihić, independent curator and art historian who has a post-graduate degree in Business of Art from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. During her ten-year stay in New York she worked in P.S. 1, the oldest and largest organization in the United States devoted solely to the promotion of the contemporary art. She has organized several exhibitions of contemporary artists from New York and worked on one of the largest private art collections of contemporary art in the world. She has written many professional works and held a number of presentations of the contemporary art and artists. As the curator and manager of Zen Contemporary Art Gallery she has organised a number of group and solo exhibitions both in Croatia and abroad and has participated at some Contemporary Art Fairs.

The Gallery represents younger and mid-generation artists holding an academic degree and who are recognized for their work in Croatia and abroad. The works of selected artists incorporate the figurative elements of the traditional artistic heritage but the artists interpret them in a rather contemporary and individual manner, while remaining loyal to traditional media – painting and sculpture. Their works of art reflect the values of contemporary art which is being contemplated from a subjective standpoint, namely from various and rather individual points of view and considerations.

The Kranjčar Gallery was established in 2006 and it is working since then in the courtyard of one of the bishop’s curia at Kaptol 26.

Since its very beginning, besides independent and group exhibitions of the leading Croatian authors of all generations, the Gallery insists on distinctive authorial conceptions. As a part of those conceptions, the Odsutni – Prisutni (Absent – Present) and Mentalni Sklop (Mindset) cycles have been realized.

What is specific about the Kranjčar Gallery is that it is not just a gallery within strict frames. Namely, its program is open for different cultural events with the aim of merging ambiguous aspects of social activity that are, by the market economy, connected with artistic creation in the current cultural and social circumstances, emphasizing the need for communication and education.

Galerija 90-60-90 obuhvaća niz likovnih događanja s ciljem promoviranja suvremene likovne umjetnosti u okviru alternativnih izložbenih prostora propitujući zahtjeve umjetnika i publike kao i poziciju institucije “galerije” danas.

Objedinjenost temom aktualizira program u društvenom kontekstu i potiče razvoj društveno angažiranog umjetničkog stvaralaštva

Arts organization Ateliers Žitnjak was founded in 2004 by artists, users of studios in an old primary school in Žitnjak, Žitnjak 53, the object which the city of Zagreb repurposed into 13 studios and gave them to artists to use. Ateliers Žitnjak were founded on the model of many international cultural centers in abandoned industrial zones, with the intention of forming artistic center that would contribute to the cultural and social revival of the peripheral, culturally neglected industrial zone Žitnjak. The main focus of Ateliers Žitnjak is on the visual arts and we tend to, along with the exhibition of already renown artist, affirm younger generation, so as to correct institutional failures. Also, with different actions we have been trying to make the variety of social problems public, as well as to suggest possible solutions to open issues. Therefore, our program guidelines are designed around the concept of the term “peripheral” both as a location and/or artistic choice or determination.

Since 2005, when it was founded, the Gallery AŽ has organized over hundred exhibitions and multimedia events in which the leading artists of the contemporary Croatian art scene have participated. What can be regarded as a specific characteristic of all exhibitions at the Gallery AŽ, is the fact that they are mainly new productions, in which the organization participates and supports exhibitions financially and logistically. Over the years, Gallery AŽ became a reliable and permanent non-institutional artistic platform which actively and promptly reacts to the social phenomena and presentation needs of the contemporary art scene. In 2010 Gallery AŽ was included on a list of the esteemed exhibition spaces in Croatia.

Gallery Siva was founded in 2012 as an initiative of graffiti and street artists active as part of ACC. The gallery program is of a presentation, education and DIY production nature, directly connected to various styles of street art, design, comic art, illustration and other visual arts, with the base criterium of unconventionality and originality.

A part of the programme is open to exhibitions and residencies by authors creating in diverse media and refusing to exhibit in institutionalized spaces and/or are curious toward DIY street art and are in need of education, space, collaboration and means of production. The complementary aspect of the gallery program is non-formal education offering insight into diversity, techniques, goals and styles of street art modalities.
